Small but Interesting Airplane Museum Near I-75 in Ohio

点评：The Waco Education Center and Air Museum is located in Troy, Ohio, a short distance from I-75. We saw the signs while driving along the interstate and decided to stop. Although it is small, it was worth the time we spent. If we lived nearby, we could have planned our visit for their annual fly-in, or for a time when biplane rides were available. Unfortunately, the biplane they use for rides was undergoing scheduled maintenance.
However, there were still things to see and do. The Waco Aircraft company is best known for producing cargo gliders used by the military during World War II. However, they also manufactured a line of small aircraft, mainly biplanes. Several of those are on exhibit, along with an old Ford TT truck fuel truck.
I particularly enjoyed the simulator. The simulator has just enough features to be fun and challenging without the need to empty your pockets, in case you get turned upside down. There is a small "cockpit" with stick, rudder pedals, and throttle. The monitor gives the forward view plus an instrument panel with airspeed, altitude, and compass. Pretty simple, but that was enough that I could take off, fly some distance from the airport, do a 180 turn, fly back to the airport, land, and stop. I gather from the staff that the forward view on the monitor is good enough that locals could return to the airport using landmarks alone. For me, the compass was enough. If I lived near the museum, I'd spend a lot of time "flying" that simulator!
