How can you mess up such a great meal?
1. Cook the potatoes so early in the day and leave them to congeal to leather .
2. Buy in pre portioned pices of fish that seemed to have a layer of mushy peas wiped over before 'battering' them.
3. Prepare fish well in advance so that the 'batter' can really harden.
We flagged down someone who seemed to be in charge, and she took the plate back into the kitchen, came back with another declaring it 'just fried', but the potatoes were still the same lukewarm leather with that unmistakable taste of potatoes that have been in an oven for far too long, and the explanation that the 'chef' used a gluten free batter!
Why would you do that for several thousand diners when the choice was either the fish or beef?
Surely if you had a handful of gluten free requests you could just fry them separately? Chip shops manage to.
Described as
'Tempura hake', this cardboard encasing has never seen anything like egg white to lighten it.
She said she'd come back over and see how it was, but couldn't manage to do even that!
Really poor service, meal . Been before and it was a great day, good food, staff knew what they were doing.
Maybe we were in a lesser level in the 1880 club. It was bad enough being a guest and having no edible main course, I'd have been mortified if I was hosting ( and Tigers charge enough for this event!), and had brought clients along as a special occasion.
