big zoo with lots of things to see and do, though a lot of the animals were not visible

点评：Having heard many times about the zoo in Asheboro, we had long wanted to go We finally made it in the springtime on a Tues., when it was relatively uncrowded.
This is a really spread-out facility. You can walk and walk to see all the sights. The tram that takes you between stations is fun. As you walk, there are trees everywhere, a genuine N.C. touch, which makes it a bit cooler. The carousel and the butterfly enclosure were both fun. The staff were fairly helpful. I guess we hit the zoo on a bad day, as we did not get to see the elephants or some of the other animals when we stopped by their respective areas.
Having been to the Bronx Zoo, it is interesting to compare the two. The first thing you notice is that the Asheboro zoo is much larger in land area (this makes sense as the Bronx Zoo is surrounded by N.Y.C. and the N.C. property is located in a rural region).
One negative note was the marketing for food and beverages. To buy a soda at Wild Burger costs between $10 and $20, depending on which cup you buy. The idea is that you pay about $3 for the actual drink and the remainder is for the cup itself. Yes, you get free refills anywhere in the park if you keep the cup, but paying $10 just to have a Coke is disturbing. To make matters worse, they do not provide a lid for the $10 cup, only for the more expensive cups, an obvious ploy to pressure you to spend even more money.
