点评:We were here Saturday & Sunday, May 9-10, 2026. I see many here are writing reviews as if the Abby and the village were one and the same. To visit the island is free and unlimited. The Abbey at the top is not free to enter. We paid 16 Euro each, and waited in line to buy tickets for only about 20 minutes. From the base of the island to reach the Abbey is 350 steps. Very manageable for anyone who can walk, just take your time as needed. There are level places to sit and rest on the way up if you want. We had no problem at all walking all the way up. Yes it is usually busy and crowded to get there, but once inside we found it very spacious and plenty of room to walk around. It is a magnificent structure with many rooms. The Abbey comprises a superb ensemble of clerical buildings including the abbey church, the cloister, the refectory, the monks' ambulatory and the gardens of what has been known as the ""Merveille"" (Marvel) since the 12th century. The island was used as a prison during the 100 years war battle between England and France in the 14th century. There are about a dozen monks and nuns that now live at the Abbey. The outdoor views from the top are spectacular and worth climbing the steps just for that alone. Do not miss seeing this national French treasure.
