点评:I dove with Wannadive 3 days while I was on the island this last week.
Saturday, June 20, the first dive day was to do the required “Check-out” dive and a second shore dive of my choice. Rene was my Divemaster for both dives. She was thorough when going over what is required, she described the dive site (Grand Windsock) well, and was very good about checking in with me and sharing things she spotted during that first dive. As I was going to be doing a boat dive with them, we decided to dive Bari Reef for the second dive so I could leave my gear with them until the boat dives. While we were waiting out our surface interval at the Eden Beach shop, I met Jemima (sp?) who is a spitfire and I enjoyed spending that 45 minutes hanging out with them. During that Bari Reef dive, Rene again was great and had hyped the dive as having a resident seahorse and a resident frogfish. She was able to deliver on both and we had a great, easy, 55 minute dive. Wannadive rating 5/5.
Monday, June 22, I did the boat dive with Yvonne (captain), Nomi (divemaster), and Sebastian. As with most day-boats, it was a bit tight on board and the usual chaos of getting gear set up. When getting set up, I found a leak in my first stage that was most likely not fixable on board, so I was provided with a loner regular that included an analog pressure gauge. I had my wrist computer that would serve to provide with depth, time, NDL etc. Everything was all good. Once everyone was setup and good, Nomi went to the bow of the boat and stayed there with no interaction with the divers on board until we arrived at the first site (Mi Dushi off Klein Bonaire). Yvonne gave a quick briefing on the boat, exit, and entry procedures, etc. Nomi gave a briefing on the site which included her telling us that she would not be checking on us during the dive, we were to stay with her and let her know when we reached 1500 psi to turn around. She also mentioned that the site was great but had nothing special to talk about. Nomi was not kidding about not checking on anyone, but occasionally did turn around for a moment before continuing ahead. I was the fourth person out of the water (out of 10) and once on deck, I noticed a hissing sound from behind me. I found that there were multiple tiny holes in the low pressure inflator hose that were not noticeable before entry. As each person got out of the water, they all asked who the diver was that had been trailing all the bubbles. I exited with 850 psi after 54 minutes, so the leaks were clearly not bad, but I was now on edge that nobody made me aware it. There were several, not one. Several, that could have become larger combined leaks, with serious complications. When Nomi got out of the water last, she made a bee-line to me to tell me I had something wrong with my BCD. Sebastian, another diver, and myself had already found the leaks and they were in the low pressure inflator hose, so I let her know and she backed down. I was then provided with another loner setup. Once underway to the second site, Nomi and Sebastian went to the bow and stayed there until reaching the second site (Andrea II). Again, no interaction with the divers other than what was required. Another single diver and I buddied up for this one since it was clear we were on our own. During the dive briefing, she told us that we could do a negative entry and go against the current. She was asked which direction that was and she told us that it isn’t possible to know from the surface and that she accidentally went the wrong way on the last dive. Anyhow, same as with the first dive and no interaction during the dive and I was very anxious during the first several minutes of the dive checking and checking everything again and again to be sure everything was good before settling in for the actual dive. Overall, the dive sites were full of soft corals, evidence of new hard coral growths, and the usual suspects you would find on a carribean reef. I still would rate the day a 1/5 based on the staff. This is billed on the website as ‘guided’ dives with full dive briefings.
Tuesday, June 23, I joined 3 friends for their Discover Scuba with Wannadive. I had briefed them the night before and cautioned that I would abort if it was being led by Nomi. Gladly, we were met with Edwin who would be their Dive Instructor. He did a great job during orientation hitting on key points and asking them if there were questions regularly. I joined them during the pool session as the unofficial videographer and filmed must of the pool session. Afterwards, we went across the street to Grand Windsock for the ocean dive. Again, I was along as an observer and to video what I could for them. Edwin was great with them and seemed to maintain calm even when it was like he was herding cats a few times when the 3 would venture off in different directions. I stayed out of it as an observer, but did attempt to assist with keeping the group together best I could. Overall, Edwin made the day a 5/5.
I had great experiences with 2 of the 3 people leading the dives who I would dive with over and over again. The other was far an away disappointing and left me feeling that safety and interaction were bottom of the priority list. I did speak with Emma while my friends were in ‘class’ for the DSD and let her know what my experience was the day before. Emma expressed what felt like real concern, but I can’t go above a 3/5 overall.
