嘉士伯艺术博物馆的点评
点评：After a short walk (7 minutes) from Copenhagen Central Station we were at the doors of the Carlsberg Glyptotek, the most important museum for me to visit in Copenhagen. As a huge fan of the Metropolitan Museum in New York, I labeled it “Copenhagen Met”. And it is, but on a smaller scale of course.
We started with its rich Egyptian Collection followed by equally impressive collection of Ancient Rome and Greece marble statues. The highlight of the Glyptotek is its gorgeous Central Hall (Festhall) architecturally inspired by Greek temples. It was funded by the museum founder, Carl Jacobsen.
If you like French Impressionists, then the Glyptotek is for you (needless to say it was for me). You will find so many paintings by Degas, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Picasso … and my personal favorite master, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, is also there - his portrait of Suzanne Valadon left me breathless.
The gem of the Glyptotek is its gorgeous courtyard. Its round glass roof is a source of natural light reflecting in the shallow pool with graceful marble statue “The Water Mother” by Danish sculptor Kai Nielsen in the middle. The lush greenery around the pool creates magical and relaxing atmosphere.
