点评:We booked the "Transfer to Dunn's River Falls" through the Royal Caribbean excursions where the description stated the excursion would simply be a transfer to the falls. Water shoes were required, there would be food available to purchase if needed (not included), no mention of additional stops, etc along the way. We were shuffled out to their transfer vehicles - not a bus; only held approximately 20-ish individuals. It did not seem as if the driver knew that he would be driving us that day as people behind us loaded into vehicles and left before us. There was a tour guide who seemed to be an employee of this "Raggae Hill". The tour guide explained things like license plate colors and Jamaican money along the way to Dunn's River Falls. We were told that we were required to wear close-toed water shoes (not just water shoes) and have a waterproof container for our phones at the falls. We were also told that we did not have enough time to stop and purchase them, but they conveniently provided them at a short stop along the way to the falls. Each pair of shoes was 10$ and the waterproof cases were $10. We were also told that we could purchase food at Raggae Hill (our stop after going to the falls.... what?? I didn't know we were going to stop anywhere else for this excursion). The tour guide sent around multiple sign-up sheets as we "didn't have time" for stops along the way and we would not have enough time to order food individually at Raggae Hill. My husband and I decided to share a meal as we could only choose between two meals (an additional 5 options were crossed off the list); we decided on the Jerk Chicken meal option - for $15 (after purchasing the "required" close-toed water shoes we were running a bit low on cash). We made it to the parking lot of the Dunn's River Falls after approximately 1.5 hours of driving. We were told to leave everything on the bus besides cash, phones, wallets, etc. We followed our tour guide to the area where we were split into groups to be guided through the falls by a guide for climbing the falls and videographer. My husband and I noticed that people who were not with a tour group and had gotten there somehow by themselves were also corralled into a group with a guide. I like to think that my husband and I are in decent shape and had no difficulty climbing the falls; we were placed in a group with older individuals who did need assistance from the Falls tour guide as well as people who seemed to do well on their own, like us. We were encouraged to help each other out and climb the falls all together. The Falls tour guide and videographer did do a lot of things to make the climb fun, but I also feel as if we started in the middle of the climb and not at the bottom because we noticed groups of people already in the river below us climbing under what looked to be a bridge. My husband and I avoided most of the video footage as we knew we would not be spending the 40$ to have the video at the end of the tour; they seemed to coerce us to continue being in front of the camera. The climb was slow but also enjoyable and the water was not too cold. I feel as if I could have climbed the Falls over and over and over again. And honestly, that is what I wanted to do and thought that the day was going to be. Did I mention that I could have completed this tour in my Chacos? And there was no need for the cheap close-toed water shoes that the soles of the shoes fell out as I was walking up the Falls.
The tour guide for the Falls seemed to block the exit expecting tips for leading us through the climb. The videographer also specifically approached my husband and I asking if we would like the video footage, which we declined. We were then told that we "had" to walk through a market to get back to the shuttle, but that if we wanted to stop and eat at Raggae Hill, that we did not have time to actually shop in the market. We walked through the market with little issue and corralled back into the shuttle bus to head to Raggae Hill, which seemed to be farther than the drive to Dunn's River Falls and also very much in a shady area in the middle of nowhere. We were told to pay for our food and water shoes at this place. They also had a bar and a little shop that you could purchase items if you chose to. We seemed to spend more time at this place than we did at Dunn's River Falls. The Jerk Chicken meal that we purchased was a measly chicken drumstick and other small piece of meat with a mound of rice, small serving of coleslaw, one sugary plantain, and a deep fried roll of some sort; definitely not worth 15$. I specifically mentioned to my husband that I thought we needed to get back on the shuttle to make it back to the ship in time just as they did some cocktail demonstration with shots of rum and then the tour guides did a line dance for everyone (seemed to take a long time). We made it back on the shuttle and one of the other passengers asked the tour guide how long it would take to get back to the port - to which she replied 45 minutes. An hour and a half later we were still not back at the port. All passengers were quite worried about not being back on the boat in time. But, thankfully we made it - 20 minutes late.
I truly thought that I was just paying for a ride to climb the Dunn's River Falls for 2-3 hours. I am disappointed we could not just keep joining groups of people to climb all day. I felt as if everything we did had an additional cost when we already paid for the excursion. I feel as if we were nickeled and dimed for every little additional thing we did. It bothers me that tips are expected when I could not have just done everything myself; that I had to have someone leading me everywhere I went. And the Raggae Hill was not even something I wanted to do or thought I was getting myself into with booking a "Transfer to Dunn's River Falls". I have no interest in returning to Jamaica after this experience.
