点评：Birdoswald is a wonderful Roman fort with some quite unique attributes, and is well worth a visit if you’re interested in Roman history. That said, if you’re only planning on visiting one or two forts, I’d aim for Housesteads and Vindolanda first. The cafe was clean and sold reasonably priced, wholesome food, and the gist shop had some interesting merchandise. The trip was made for me though by the fantastic guided tour (by Heather? apologies if I’ve got the name wrong). The tour was fun, insightful, and very thorough. The guide was happy to answer questions and even showed the group some points of interest along the wall itself, walking us to the heights above Willowford Bridge. It looked like tours were only on a couple of times a day, so worth checking in advance.
Would recommend. That said, it was on the pricey side, especially as I had to pay £4 parking on top of the entrance fee.
