点评:Another day, another trip! This time it was only a short cab ride from our hotel to the South Gate of the Botanical Gardens.
As usual, I put my passport into my man-bag, as you never know when you’ll need official identification. I also put in my smart phone, not only for photos but as everything, including payments, is now centred around scanning QR codes.
At the gate my wife bought tickets, of course I got a sizeable discount by being ancient and showing a passport to prove it. My wife got a bit of a discount by showing her Guangzhou Old Person’s travel card. Every little helps!
Then into the gardens we wandered. We just went with the flow to the first escalator up the mountain. Now this is how we like to climb. At the top of each one of the five escalators, we stopped to admire the view which was always the same. Even at the top, the sign describing the view was the same as the sign as the one on the second (or it could have been the third) escalator.
Anyway, there’s not much to do at the top, so we scanned the ‘app’ and bought tickets to descend by bus to the West Gate. My wife bought tickets that enabled us to hop on and off the bus at any of the bus stops.
We actually got off at the ‘Succulent Garden’ stop but after walking about 100 metres to the garden we found it was at the bottom of a long flight of steps. We reckoned going down was not too difficult, but we didn’t fancy the climb back in the 32C heat. So, we retraced our way to the bus stop and continued non-stop down the hill in air-conditioned comfort to the West Gate.
I know there’s a lot more to experience in the garden but we’re not a great fans, so we slid gracefully through the exit turn stile.
There was a cable car ride but unfortunately, according to the owners, I’m far too geriatric for such dangerous activities. Pity!
Then it was a cab ride back to the hotel. Not much of a day, but there was tomorrow to look forward to.
