Unlike the grand castles and residences of samurai lords, this museum shows how ordinary soldiers and their families actually lived.
Walking through the beautifully preserved wooden houses felt like stepping back several centuries. The tatami rooms, traditional kitchen area, storage spaces, and household objects provide a rare insight into everyday life rather than just military history. The displays are simple but informative, and the preserved architecture is remarkable.
What I particularly enjoyed was the authenticity of the experience. The museum is small, quiet, and uncrowded, allowing visitors to appreciate the details at their own pace. The traditional stone pathways, wooden interiors, and exhibits of armour and household items help bring the history of Kanazawa to life.
