点评:We had a fantastic day out exploring Belterra with Paulo and Bruno by bike.
Belterra, near Santarem, was founded as a rubber plantation, after the economic failure of Fordlândia, which had been founded in 1928 by Henry Ford to produce rubber in Brazil and ship it to USA.
Lots of traces of the past, including a siren that is still sounded at 1130am daily which used to indicate shift changes and for the women to go back to get lunch ready!
Then we ate breakfast at a meliponary. Melipona bees are a variety that is vital to the ecosystem. Since ancient times, the honey produced by this type of bee was considered sacred since it also provides healing values. The woman running it is creating an entire ecosystem with many different species.
And finally we spotted a coati and an anaconda.
Cycled 30km in 31C. Yes it was hot!
Wonderful to get out of the city and experience rural life and environment with great guides who looked after us very well.
Highly recommended!
