点评:Okay… honest review incoming!
Don’t waste your time. I actually felt guilty for visiting and adding to the circus and constant foot traffic around the lake!
This has been a bucket-list visit of mine for years. Lake Louise is the famous one — especially in the UK. You hear “Canada” and Lake Louise immediately comes to mind!
But as soon as we pulled up, it honestly felt like being at a theme park. There were queues everywhere, crowds of people, and marshals shouting and waving pedestrians through a very busy car park.
Our first stop was the toilet, where we joined a huge queue… only to walk into toilets that were absolutely disgusting. I genuinely felt awful for whoever has to clean them. I just don’t understand how people can’t look after public facilities.
As I was coming out, a poor employee was telling everyone that the toilets were being closed for cleaning. You would have thought she had announced that Lake Louise itself was closing! She said there was another set of toilets just a short walk away (which I would have used if I had known), but giving the backlash apparently nobody could be bothered to walk there.
The walk down to the lake itself was short and very basic — nothing particularly special, just like a walk you could find in any public park.
And then we reached the lake…
Honestly? It just didn’t have the WOW factor for me. Especially after visiting Moraine Lake, which completely blew us away.
There were people absolutely everywhere, with selfie sticks, phone contraptions and people posing for photos in every direction. And I don’t just mean the usual family, couple or friends’ selfies — I mean full-on posing and photoshoots!
Each to their own, and of course everyone wants to get their photos — we did too! But when you’re just trying to get one quick photo and you’re being pushed by someone who wants to lie down across the whole area for a full-on pose, it does get a little annoying!
You could barely even get to the lake to enjoy the view from the main opening point because of the sheer number of people.
We did walk around and eventually found a few quieter areas, which were much more peaceful, but even then, it just wasn’t giving me that magical Moraine Lake feeling.
And then there’s the poor hotel right next to the lake… thank goodness we weren’t staying there! That was actually one of our options, but we chose The Malcolm Hotel in Canmore instead — wise choice!
There were signs all over the gates and entrances saying “Guests Only,” which we thought was completely fair. Although we were a little confused because we had thought you could go in for afternoon tea.
But judging by the hundreds of people walking through the entrance by the lake and completely ignoring the signs, I can imagine that if you were actually staying there, you’d get pretty fed up with the constant noise and people traipsing through the area.
So, would I go back?
Honestly, no.
I will say, though, that all of the staff we came across seemed lovely and super bloomin’ busy! They were clearly working incredibly hard trying to keep everything running smoothly with the sheer number of people there, so kudos to them because it definitely looked like a stressful job!
