点评：If you love plants, nature, or simply enjoy a peaceful stroll, Pamplemousses Botanical Garden is lovely to visit while in Mauritius. It is one of the most beautiful and historically significant botanical gardens in the Southern Hemisphere, filled with extraordinary trees and plants from around the world.
Top tip #1: Hire one of the official guides at the entrance. It was the best decision we made. Without a guide, many of the fascinating stories behind the plants would have been missed. Their knowledge is exceptional, they know exactly where to find the garden’s hidden treasures, and they point out details you would almost certainly walk straight past. It is worth every penny.
Top tip #2: Apply mosquito repellent before you enter the garden. You’ll thank yourself later!
Although London’s Kew Gardens is world-renowned, Pamplemousses has its own unique charm and is home to many remarkable species that are difficult to find elsewhere. We were especially fortunate to visit when the spectacular Mountain Rose was in bloom—a rare sight even according to our guide. Other highlights included the fascinating Buddha Tree, the quirky Cheese Tree, elegant Fish Tail Palms, enormous Elephant Ear plants, and the iconic Giant Victoria Water Lilies, whose enormous floating leaves are one of the garden’s most photographed attractions.
The giant avenue of palms is breathtaking, with towering species collected from different parts of the world, creating an impressive natural cathedral. The garden is also home to giant Aldabra tortoises and a peaceful deer enclosure, making it enjoyable for both adults and children.
Whether you’re a passionate gardener, a keen photographer, or simply looking for a relaxing escape from the beach, Pamplemousses Botanical Garden is a memorable experience. I have given 4 stars because it’s relatively small and we could see everything within 2 hours.
