点评:Nebraska hasn't that much to offer to tourists, so we found these two attractions (Scotts Bluff and Chimney Rock) being the best in state.
They're pretty close one to another (half an hour drive), however reaching them from wherever is very boring, driving vast plains in a straight line with nothing around. From Denver it took us around 3 hours.
On the other hand, once there you're rewarded with amazing natural sites from US history. Our first stop was Chimney Rock and you can read more in that review.
Driving from Chimney Rock you'll see in a distance several bluffs rising from the plains. They really look dramatic and we could imagine what they meant for early settlers as an orientation point some 200 y ago.
Entry to the site is totally free with ample parking spaces and very kind staff. They advise you to see a 10 min movie first which is very informative and I advise it as well. Also, there's an attached small interesting museum.
After that you can walk by the cattle and wagons replicas set beneath the bluff to feel the 19c settlers atmosphere.
Climbing the bluff is a must and you have two options - hiking or driving up. We chose to drive and once up hiked two short trails - southern and longer northern. Views from up are marvelous spreading miles and miles 360 degrees - we could clearly see 20 miles east Chimney Rock we've visited beforehand.
Count on around two hours for a proper visit .
