点评:We visited New Zealand 10 years ago and were not able to do this stingray visit so it was a "for sure" bucket list item for this trip. We were not disappointed! We were with family and friends and being with the stingrays was part of a birthday celebration. The visit was led by youth who spoke with such reverence of the stingrays and ensured everyone, adults and children, had a chance to touch and feed the stingrays. Our dear friend is Maori and explained that the whai (stingray) are a guardian of their iwi (tribe/nation). That means their people will always be protected in the waters. Dive Tatapouri gives people the absolute gift of being able to go into the water and - if they so choose - those whai will come to you personally and connect with you. An incredible thing about whai is how they can feel the heartbeat of any person who comes into the water. It was a privilege to touch and feed them.
(2 tips for the visit: you will wear wader overalls so be sure you put your phone in the front top pocket before you wade out cause it'll be tricky to reach it when you're by the stingrays. Also keeping someone between you and your partner makes it easier for you to take pictures/video when they touch the stingrays.)
