点评:I’ve been coming to Philipsburg every year or so for 15 years. I love most aspects of it, but the service here is horrible, and isn’t improving.
I have to think it’s a cultural thing. In the last two days I’ve left three restaurants because I couldn’t get a menu. I left a little bar last night. I ordered a drink and didn’t have it 15 mins later.
I understand “island time,” but this is something different.
It’s not uncommon for waitresses, instead of greeting you, to just approach and stare at you.
Tipping isn’t customary here, but they often add a service charge, neither of which motivates improvement.
I realize the people working here grew up, and live, in poverty and maybe that carries with it some resentment. I haven’t noticed service issues like this in similarly poor countries. I always try to be polite and gracious. That doesn’t help here.
