点评:Although I think I know Sicily pretty well, I’m ashamed to say I hadn’t heard of Morgantina. I spotted the three dots on the map, marking an ancient site, while on a road trip across the island and do not regret making a diversion. I was there on a misty December day, and had the whole site to myself, which added to the special atmosphere. It’s fairly extensive and although lacks the “wow” factor of Agrigento, Segesta or Selinunte’s temples, it gives you more of an idea of what life was like in an ancient Green city and includes what are claimed to be the earliest mosaics & revolutionary and incredibly complex baths. Its discovery and excavation story is also fascinating and reads like a gripping detective story. It’s well worth also going to the very well designed & laid out archaeological museum at nearby Aidone, which is home
to most of the artefacts found at Morgantina, including stuff that was stolen and found its way to America.
