3 Day Johnstone Strait Tour

点评：Just finished the 3 day tour of Johnstone Strait with Michelle P as our guide. My 14 year old son and I joined two other guests who quickly became our friends on this amazing tour.
Communication before the trip was excellent, questions about what to pack and dietary needs were answered quickly and we arrived in Telegraph Cove feeling well prepared, especially since AWE supplies all the equipment we needed. So nice to just show up with our clothes and have everything else packed and ready to go!
We started the trip with a group meeting to discuss safety, go over the chart (map) and tide, current and weather forecasts, before getting geared up and loading our personal gear in the kayaks.
Because the weather forecast was less than ideal we agreed to set up at the same location for both nights so we could have a dry home base to come back to. Our camp site had amazing views of Blackfish Sound and even when we weren't out paddling we were treated to whale sightings. We could even hear the whales blowing and trumpeting from our tent one night.
Over the three days of paddling we experienced the full spectrum of Vancouver Island weather - sunshine and rain, calm seas and wind, but wet weather didn't stop us from having a great time. Sea lions came out to play around our boats and we saw so many humpback whales and porpoises. Michelle did an excellent job helping us identify the birds and marine life we came across and provided the history of the area as well.
We had almost as much fun at camp as we did on the water, there was lots of time to explore the shoreline and relax with a book or play games while Michelle took care of all our meals - food was excellent. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, delicious variety of meals and plenty of snacks. My son and I are both celiac and special attention was paid to make sure our meals were safe and gluten free.
This was our first overnight kayak trip, but I'm sure it won't be our last! We've done lots of backcountry camping, but the guided experience made this trip extra special!

在这三天的划船旅程中，我们体验到了温哥华岛上各种各样的天气——晴天、雨天、海面平静时也有大风天。不过恶劣的天气丝毫没有影响我们的兴致。海狮们还跑来我们的船边嬉玩，我们还看到了大量座头鲸和鼠海豚。米歇尔出色地帮助我们辨认所遇到的各种鸟类和海洋生物，还向我们介绍了这片地区的历史。
我们在营地里玩得和在水上一样开心——有很多时间可以漫步海岸线、捧着书放松休息或玩游戏。而米歇尔则负责准备所有餐食——食物美味极了。有大量新鲜水果和蔬菜，各式佳肴层出不穷，零食也供应充足。我和儿子都患有乳糜泻，因此主办方特别留意确保我们吃到的食物安全且无麸质。
这是我们第一次进行过夜皮划艇旅行，但我确信这不会是最后一次！我们以前也进行过很多野外露营，不过这次有专业向导带领，让这次旅行变得格外特别！
