点评:We attempted to do the pass in thick fog, which was our first mistake. We drove to Llanthony Priory which was good fun with their cellar cafe/bar and then made our way to Hay on Wye.
We had no idea what the road would be like. We were very naive!
All I can say is that it was the scariest journey in a car I've ever made. The fog, the visibility of the fog, was about 20/30 ft. This meant that this tiny, narrow, wiggly road was all we could see. It looked like there was a drop off of thousands of feet on each side because we were in the clouds. We could not see anything except the road itself. It was genuinely so foggy that the passing points were almost invisible.
It took us about three quarters of an hour to drive, I think, as we were just creeping along, gripping the road for dear life.
Fortunately, we only passed a couple of cars which were difficult enough to pass - any more than that, we might have done a Thelma and Louise!
We eventually got to Hay Wye and were genuinely thankful we had survived. This sounds a little bit over the top, but honestly it was brutal.
And one piece of advice would be never to do it in the fog!
