Low Head Penguin Tours的点评
点评：I was disappointed with this tour overall. According to the website, “They take on small groups of 10-15 people at a time in order to protect the birds and make sure everyone has an experience they can remember”. However, on the evening I attended, there were far more people than advertised. There were multiple groups, and each group appeared to be significantly larger than 10–15 people.
When checking in, I was asked whether I had any neck, back, or knee issues and whether I could walk on sand. As I don’t have any of those issues, I said I was able to walk on sand. As it turned out, only one group—presumably those who said they couldn’t walk on sand—was taken to the viewing platform. The remaining groups were spaced along the beach.
Unfortunately, the location assigned to my group saw only a handful of penguins come ashore. From our spot, we could clearly see the viewing platform in the distance, where many more penguins were emerging from the water. This may have been specific to that night, but it’s hard not to assume the platform was built in that location for a reason.
We stood on the beach while a small number of penguins came out of the water and lingered briefly, after which we were instructed to move up the beach so the penguins would follow us. We were then led back through the rookery to the burrows where the chicks were, but due to the large group size, I was unable to see much at all.
By this point it was dark - although there was a tour guide at the front and back of the group with yellow torches, unless you were standing right next to them, you essentially walked back in the dark without seeing anything.
Overall, the experience was very underwhelming. If you do decide to take this tour, I would suggest saying you can’t walk on sand, as it seems you may at least get to see more that way.
