点评:After visiting this beach every day on many occasions during our numerous holidays on Hydra we were looking forward to returning yesterday for a family birthday celebration. What a disappointment! Three of us took the lovely walk whilst the other six chose to take the boat., expecting to pass us on the way. When we arrived our boat party weren’t there so headed to get drinks before selecting our loungers, surprised to be the only guests at 10.25, Arthur, the owner/manager was busy on the phone and we were treated by a member of staff who looked like he’d been doing some maintenance, dirty black trousers and t-shirt. When we said we’d like to order drinks and would be staying for the day his first reaction was ‘do you know the price?’ Yes we know it’s quite expensive, but yes we can afford it! He proceeded to look us up and down before asking if we were sure. This came across as nothing short of rude! Our drinks were served and we waited for the rest of the family who phoned to say the boat wasn’t in the harbour. On querying with Arthur he advised it would be 10minutes as it had run out of fuel. 20 minutes later it had still not arrived so our party took a water taxi which turned out to be cheaper in any event! Whilst waiting we noted the beach was messy, the towels weren’t on the beds and it was looking a little unkept. A trip to the beach WC was a surprise as the standard of cleanliness and maintenance was poor. The door did not lock, the bin was almost full, presumably from the previous day, and the mirror was cracked. Taking to our loungers we had to ask for towels and then for drinks. Bottles of water came but no glasses. Arthur came to chat with us explaining he’d been quiet however maintaining he was the best on the island. Having been to four seasons (as was) on the two days previous I questioned this as the customer service we had received there had been incredible, their beds were comfortable, modern and clean. The towels had been plush and luxurious and their toilet facilities spotless. Arthur maintained his stance at being the best and most expensive, confirming his Michelin starred chef was creating exceptional food. As the clock neared midday we ordered drinks - beer for the men who unfortunately had to change brand as they’d run out. A few of us ordered vodka with strawberry soda, having noted numerous flavoured sodas on the menu. Again strawberry, we were advised, was off the menu as they’d run out and only had grapefruit. The drinks were served in bottles to the men, no glasses provided and plastic glasses to the women. Surprisingly two drinks arrived with strawberry soda (flat and bitty). We intended to eat in the restaurant but were looking forward to having sushi prior to lunch as on previous visits it had been excellent. Arthur advised we’d have a long wait as the sushi chef would be there until mid June. Obviously the M starred chef was not up to this job! We proceeded to lunch feeling a little disappointed so far with the quality of the amenities and service but hoping for a taste sensation of a lunch. The tables weren’t set, their beds menus were sparse and the staff, whilst friendly, appeared unorganised and unsupervised, wandering around aimlessly. With only one menu between 9 we asked for more to be given one. Upon asking if we could all have a menu, some were given the breakfast menu! When ordering lunch we were advised it could not all come at the same time as three of the party had ordered off the snack menu and ‘it would be too complicated’. Really? Arthur had advised he’d three chefs in the kitchen and there was only us and a party of four eating in the restaurant. Sure enough the snack menu food came first and was excellent as we’d remembered it. Slider burgers, great quality and generous in size. The chips were crispy, light and well seasoned. The rest of waited but enjoyed the overpriced price we had to poor ourselves as the waiting staff remained inattentive. Out Michelin starred food arrived -looking pretty on the plate but little more than a couple of mouths full. Redsnspper approx 5cm long and tasteless. Accompanied with lovely asparagus tips (3) and sliced, uncooked mushrooms. Beef, the star of the show and. Most expensive meal on the menu- over cooked and tough and definitely was not complimented by either the chocolate sauce or ice cream and nut crumble it was served with, a taste experience in a bad way! The birthday girl in our party was disappointed to say the least that what should have been a really special meal was poor, indeed we’d eaten much better in the local cafe/restaurant the night before. We paid the bill at just under £1000! and left early, Note to Arthur - you may no longer be bothered whether customers return, preferring to charge ridiculously high prices to one off guests on the basis that more will follow the next day, this will however not be a sustainable business. Your standards have slipped in the four years I have been visiting, what used to feel luxurious and exceptional facilities with first class customer service is now dated, shabby and poor. You are delusional if you think your food is the best on the island - take a trip to four seasons, Sunset or the exquisite Ominos. Your location may be the best but you are certainly not!
