点评:After seeing the Acropolis, a visit to the Ancient Agora of Athens is one of the other highlights of the city. The Agora was the government and commercial heart of the city during the Golden Age of Athens with construction beginning around 450 BC. Today the highlights include the splendid Temple of Hephaestus which is one of the best-preserved temples from ancient Greece. The Stoa of Attalos which was filled with shops and offices in its day has been beautifully reconstructed and inside is the interesting Museum of the Agora displaying artifacts that were excavated at the site and pertain to life in ancient Athens and the government institutions that existed in the city. There are also the ruins of the outdoor theater known as the Odeon of Agrippa, of the Middle Stoa and of other important buildings. It is also the site of the Byzantine Holy Church of the Apostles which dates back to the 10th century and is one of the oldest surviving churches in Athens. It is worth spending a couple hours taking it all in. A visit here is well worth the €20 entry fee. I used the excellent audio tour found on the Rick Steve's App to tour, and it was very helpful explaining the history of the Agora and providing details of what I was looking at as I explored the area.
