点评:I attended a Tuesday evening mass at this northernmost church in the world which is open 24 hours. The service was in Norwegian but the entire service was very inclusive and the hymns and music are recognizable in any language. The pastor helpfully translated in English some of the proceedings.
The walls are adorned with pictures, photographs, and artifacts describing the origins of the church - which is used by all denominations and religious groups - and Svalbard. There are comfortable chairs before the area where church services occur to meet with and chat with service goers and church employees. When I attended, most were tourists such as myself. A very welcome community space. Snacks and coffee are served - donations welcomed. I spent a total of two hours and used a taxi to visit the place primarily because I was wary of walking in the snow covered road to it in the dark. A worthy place to drop by while in Longyearbyen.
