Plenty to experience, but not the place to avoid a crowd
涩谷中心街的点评
点评：One of Tokyo’s 23 wards, Shibuya is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. It is a major commercial center and is considered a hub for fashion, nightlife and youth culture. My adult son and I spent three days and three nights there in mid-January 2026.
Shibuya has many well-known attractions, including the famed Shibuya Crossing (or Shibuya Scramble), the Hachiko statue, the rooftop views at Shibuya Sky, the Shibuya Center Shopping Street (or Shibuya Center Gai), the multi-story Parco mall (which houses both a Pokémon and a Nintendo store), and the sprawling Yoyogi Park. Center Gai in particular is bustling during the day, and at night becomes ablaze in neon; combined with the crowds one can experience some sensory overload, which can lead some to become a bit disoriented.
While in Shibuya we tried to take advantage of its many popular draws; we strolled up and down the Center Gai during the day and at night, traversed Shibuya Crossing several times, shopped at department stores (like Loft), discount stores (like MEGA Don Quijote) and specialty stores (like Musashi Knives), visited a cat café, wandered into Yoyogi Park, took a selfie next to the Hachiko statue, spent time at several cafes and bars, and had some terrific meals (sushi, ramen, omurice, chicken nanban and burgers). We didn’t spend our entire time in Shibuya, but our day trips to other wards were made convenient due to our proximity to Shibuya Station.
When visiting Shibuya, try to push beyond the confines of the main shopping and nightlife areas, where the pace is less frenzied and where businesses cater to locals. We did so and relaxed at a great café and had a terrific meal at a small lunch counter. Whatever approach you take, a visit to Tokyo should include a stop in Shibuya.
