Amazing seascape in need of stewardship

点评：This city has so much potential. The landscape is amazing and the sea is incredible.. Some truly amazing sunsets.
We went for a sabbatical trip in January 2026, and were actually okay with having a sleepy town. However, this was a little too sleepy. Not many restaurants updated their hours and we found ourselves walking to a restaurant only to find it closed either because hours were mis-stated or closed for the season. Not a deal killer, but more of a minor frustration.
A major issue is the community is not stewarding the space very well. The cat population is out of control. Many streets smell of cat urine and are lined with feces. In addition trash is everywhere. I walked by the sea many times and saw garbage blown into the water, bicycles thrown into the water, and garbage littering the streets. I can already hear the locals blaming the tourists. Well, other cities have more tourists and aren't as nearly as shabby as this one. In fact, I found myself cleaning up after the locals because I thought it was ashamed the disarray of the city.
Interacting with the locals was hit and miss. We went to a couple of restaurants and had truly wonderful service and one that remembered us after coming in twice. However, there were other times we felt either ignored or frowned upon.
The food was pretty good. Some excellent places for pizza and finding local olive oils.
I really wanted this place to be what I had hoped, but it fell short and we ended up leaving a couple of days early due to the disappointment.
