Some places are good. A few are memorable. And then there are the rare ones you find yourself quietly planning to return to before you’ve even left.
The Arctic Spa at Foxfires, tucked away in the tranquil forest just outside Levi, is one of those places. This was our second visit, and that fact alone probably says everything.
The setting feels almost storybook-like: deep snow, pine forest, soft smoke curling from chimneys. The experience centres around a traditional wood-fired sauna, an outdoor hot tub, and a beautifully built Kota hut with an open fire and grill. If you’ve never experienced a wood-fired sauna before, it’s difficult to describe how different it feels from an electric one. The gentle crackle of the fire and the subtle aroma of burning wood create a sensory layer that makes the heat feel softer, deeper, and somehow more natural.
On this visit we were lucky with timing. As we soaked in the hot tub after the sauna, the light slowly shifted from soft afternoon daylight to the deep blue of evening as the first sliver of the new moon appeared above the Kota roof. For the Kota we brought raclette cheese, sausages, and marshmallows to cook over the open fire. Simple food, but somehow it tastes better when you’re wrapped in robes, warmed from the sauna, and listening to the crackle of burning wood.
Foxfires Arctic Spa feels intentionally small and intimate. It’s beautifully suited for couples, friends (or even individuals) with natural, earthy décor that blends perfectly into the snowy forest surroundings. The whole experience feels private, peaceful, and quietly magical.
