点评:We had just been to Knossos so paired this with a visit to the museum to see what had been excavated there. The artefacts themselves are incredible and definitely worth seeing but the staff really need some training. All of them were sullen and disinterested. None of them actually looked at us just held out hands for tickets and waved us through. I was ‘shushed’ the moment I walked in to the museum by the woman on duty there which astonished me. I was speaking to my son (who was standing next to me!) about one of the displays. He studies ancient history at University so has a real interest. There was a tour going on at the other end of the room with a tour guide speaking loudly and the group all wearing headsets so I can’t possibly have disturbed them. All the other staff sat around scowling or disinterested. The toilets were very poor. I think 6 cubicles and 3 were missing actual loo seats. The gift shop was ridiculous. Staff just stared at us when we entered and they are selling jewellery in there for £1000+… Such a shame because it should be a welcoming and engaging place but it really isn’t. I felt they couldn’t wait for us to leave. Comparing it to the Ashmolean for example it’s a pretty poor experience. Presumably the museum relies on tourists so they should bear that in mind.
