点评：Well, as I go back and revisit the places our school trips went to, passing through Siena was wonderful. I can't get enough of visiting places in Tuscany. Towns full of beauty, history, wine and great food. Siena is a great place to go on a school trip. It isn't that big and students enjoyed the sites, food and shopping. I looked forward to having my lunch in one of the restaurants in the Piazza. The center point of Siena that is also a historic center is the Piazza del Campo. It is one of the most well known piazza's in Italy. It is home to the famous Palio horse race. A race that is held twice a year where horses from the different Contradas (sections/towns of Siena) are dressed in their colors. The race is 2 times around the Piazza. In the buildings that encircle the Piazza are restaurants, coffee and souvenir shops. I was looking forward to going back to the restaurant I visited last time there. The restaurant has local dishes and great views of the Piazza. I felt for what I got, it was a very reasonable price. As in all my reviews, you will get a little history of the place. This area was once used as a Medieval marketplace. This market place would have people from nearby communities to gather and trade.
The stand out building in the Piazza is the Palazzo Publico building with the Torre della Mangia attached next to it. Palazzo Publico still serves as Town hall and it also is home of the Museo Civico. Palazzo Publico was built between 1297 and 1310. It was later that Torre della Mangia was built in 1325 - 1344.
The Torre della Mangia dominates the view in the Piazza. It stands out at 285 feet (taller if you want to include the lightning rod). The bell inside was installed in 1666 and weighs 14,770 pounds. If you can. climb the tower to the top. It has close to 400 steps and an amazing view of Siena and the surrounding countryside.
