点评:In the Plazza Pretoria is Palermo's massive fountain with a rather unusual name, Fonata della Vergogna (Fountain of Shame). Legend has it that this massive fountain was shipped to Palermo from Florence in over 600 pieces after it had been built for a Florentine noble but was too big for the garden of his daughter's villa. The transaction must have been 'sight unseen' because it was only when the pieces were unpacked that it was discovered that the statues were nude and where was it to be sighted in Palermo - right next door to a Dominican convent!!. But why the Fountain of Shame? Supposedly, one of the nuns looked out of her window and shouted "Che vergogna! Che vergogna" - "What a shame! What a shame!". Whether or not this legend is true, the Fontana della Vergogna is still a beautiful Renaissance sculptured fountain and should not be missed.
