点评：The archaeological park can be reached very easily from the centre of Naples by train. Just take the train from central Garibaldi station to Pompei Scavi. It takes just over 30 mins and was around 8 Euro for a return ticket. Buy your entrance ticket online before arriving, (I bought mine on the train ride), as when getting there in the morning there are long queues. For the extra couple of Euro's it's worth buying the Pompeii plus ticket which includes the 2 extra villas with some stunning frescos. I rented the audio guide for 9 Euro which wasn't really worth it. Better to hire an actual tour guide if part of a larger group. Alternatively, there is a phone app you can download which provides extra information. With your entrance ticket you get a map which is helpful as the site is massive and you can easily spend the full day. After about 4 hours in the strong sun that was enough for me. The highlights for me were the Amphitheatre and the nearby Gymnasium area which very respectfully displayed the casts of the bodies frozen in time at the point of death.
Around the site there are water fountains to refill your water bottles and a couple of small cafes serving light snacks and refreshments. If you want to get the full picture of what life was like, also visit the archaeological museum in Naples where there's many frescos, statues and paintings rescued from the site and now on display. For its historical significance, I think this is one of the must-see sites in the world.
