点评:The feeling of scale in this extraordinary amphitheater is amplified when you think that the tourist crowds would be dwarfed by Romans attending a live event . The structure of the theatre is intact enough after various renovations over the centuries to feel the history. A short simulation film helps show what it would have looked like when intact and in its full marble covered glory ( from which only fractions of fallen columns remain ) . The site is accessible if visitors are fit enough to climb stairs up to the top but has views from all levels of the bay . The cafe at the top commands the panorama views from platforms that look up and down the coast over Taormina and all the way to Messina with the coast of Calabria opposite
A better onsite museum would improve this amazing site further
