点评:Mercato Centrale is probably the most accessible market for tourists as it’s just a short walk from the Duomo. To avoid any confusion if you’re looking at a map, it’s also called the San Lorenzo Market (in reference to the San Lorenzo Church which marks that start of it).
The street market is crowded and the stall-holders tend to be somewhat aggressive in their sales technique. I was only browsing so I found it was best not linger over anything in particular and to keep moving on. Having said that, there’s plenty to look at. It’s mostly bags, wallets, belts, gloves, scarves and clothing and a lot of it is the same. As others have pointed out, it’s doubtful that much of it is made in Italy any more but if you want souvenirs or gifts then this isn’t a bad place to have a look.
The main attraction for me is that it’s right next to the large covered food and produce hall. Its always interesting to wander through the downstairs area and check out typical Tuscan produce and then head upstairs to the food court area and cruise around before choosing something to eat.
Its worth noting that upstairs is open at night time so we have come here for dinner also (downstairs is closed).
