Fabulous wildlife holiday in Ecuador, thank you Neblina!

点评：We've just come back from a 2-week wildlife trip in Ecuador run by Neblina Forest, it was the most incredible trip with spectacular wildlife viewing, (a lot of) great food and amazing memories. The itinerary of the trip had been put together with great care to include very different eco-systems and habitat, the result being that we saw a huge diversity of fauna and flora. It is impossible to pick a highlight as each day brought its own, but I saw all the birds (nearly 400 species) I had wanted to see plus several I had not expected to, as well as some fantastic mammals and reptiles. Our guide Luis had a comprehensive knowledge not only of the (large) number of birds and animals we saw, but also the various invertebrates and plants, and their ecology. He also had a sense of humour which helps when dealing with being asked the name of the same bird several times over in the space of 5 minutes (sorry!) The logistics were really well organised, all the transfers worked like clockwork and our driver Jose was the model of calm and patience in the face of whatever was thrown at him. We stayed in 5 different lodges all of which were fantastic (my 2 favourites, simply for location, were Guaycapi and Napo Wildlife Center) with great food, friendly and helpful staff, fabulous wildlife viewing some in the most dramatic and stunning locations. We learned a huge amount about the diversity of this beautiful country, its geography, climate and cuisine (especially the soups and chilli sauce) . I would encourage anyone with an interest in natural history and a wish to help indigenous communities look after their heritage to put Ecuador (and Neblina!) on their list.
