Sandwich Medieval Centre的点评
点评:4/10/26 Sunday late afternoon
We three middle aged guys from London were starring in Sandwich Travelodge, checking in at 3 and after settling in it was 3:30 by the time we left to walk the two miles of roads to Sandwich, realising we would not get there in time as it closed at 4.
We arrived at the bridge at 3:55 then walked along the river, seeing the centre with some activity. I thought there was no hope as we arrived at 4. Inside was a group of costumed volunteers who had finished their shifts I expected.
I ventured in, expecting to be told 'closed, goodbye, come back Tuesday', but instead a very friendly woman in costume started chatting with me explaining the charity and the forge which was not in operation as the forger was away. The display was impressive. Then she talked about the printing press above which I was interested in. We ended up talking about calligraphy of which she, Julie, is a Fellow of CLAS. She followed me upstairs and showed my friends and me an example of her own work which was also impressive.
A demijohn of mead had been made earlier in a workshop which was interesting.
The small charity has an active education programme which is commendable.
At 4:20 the volunteers were definitely packing up and we were warmly invited back to their events in the green nearby.
I left a tenner note in the donations box (which is rare for me) as they had been so accommodating.
