点评:Pickford’s House is located in the Cathedral Quarter of Derby on Friar Gate.
It is just over a mile and a quarter on foot from Derby station. Bus U1 runs from the station to nearby the museum.
It was built for architect Joseph Pickford as a family home in the 18th century and is a fine example of a Georgian home.
It was used as a doctor’s surgery in the late 19th century and the rooms are full of period furniture and fittings.
There are some splendid paintings on view throughout the house including several portraits by the great local boy Joseph Wright.
I liked the old toys and the old toy theatres on display.
Lara Croft, who was created by Derby based tech firm Core Design, features prominently in the museum. Some great memorabilia relating to her.
Due to the wet weather, I did not venture into the garden but it looked good through the window.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Admission is free.
