A lovely, intimate zoo. Great Animal Encounters!!
Sydney Zoo的点评
点评：This is simply a SPLENDID zoo. It does not have the fame, proximity to downtown Sydney, or flash of Taro ta Zoo, right across Sydney Harbour; however, in my view, the Sydney Zoo provides a more intimate experience. Because it is not centrally located to the tourist area, you have to WANT to go here.
Because of its distance, you’ll take a train and bus to get here — about 1 hour from Central Station, Sydney. Because of the distance, there are more LOCALS here, local Australians visiting with their kids or school groups. Also, there were young people interested in zoo-keeping, in native animals, and in veterinary science.
The Zoo offers ‘Encounters’ — by prior appointment on their website — with various animals: photos ops with koalas, chance to feed the meerkats, get up-close to the capybaras, see the quokkas, red pandas, tigers, giraffes, and many others. The zookeeper will escort you into a special enclosure, explain the animals, point out their behaviors, I played with the meerkats (which ended up sitting on my head), and fed the capybaras (and discovered that if you rub their tummies, they purr).
I highly recommend Sydney Zoo, this off-the-beaten-path zoo. Be sure to be clear about the name: The Sydney Zoo is in Blacktown. The Taronga Zoo is across the harbour. The Wild Life Sydney Zoo is near Darling Harbour.
