A Surprisingly Great Cologne Experience
巧克力博物馆的点评
点评：This is a surprisingly great experience in Cologne, and I highly recommend you make it a part of your visit. Like the fragrance museum, I really had not expected too much and at first was not going to do it. However, so many reviews were so positive, and like cologne fragrance, chocolate is one of those products the Germans are known for. Let me simply say, this museum was a highlight for everyone in our family.
While I am not sure if this is the best way to see it, it was the best way for us to get the most out of our day in Cologne to see the museum when it opens at 10:00. I bought the timed tickets for everyone in our family online before traveling and it worked very well for our family. The museum is really two different experiences.
The first part is a sort of history of chocolate and how it is harvested including some of the societal ills like African exploitation. The second part is how you make chocolate from the bean to the candy bar. Both were extremely informative and hands on, especially the making chocolate. Only speaking English was not a problem and we could have spent much more time here, but our day only allowed just under an hour. We did not get to see everything, but we did see a lot including the best part which was the sampling.
Again, everyone in our family enjoyed and my son and daughter-in-law really wanted to stay longer. It is a great experience in Cologne, and you can see most of both parts in an hour. While it may not be what you thought would be a highlight to Cologne prior to your visit, you will be impressed and glad you did if you make it a part of your day. Plus, you get some great chocolate samples.
