点评：Zaanse Schans made for a really enjoyable day trip out of Amsterdam, with plenty of small things to see and do — the windmills (including going inside a couple of them), a cheese tasting, and a live wooden shoe carving demonstration. It's an easy, relaxed way to spend several hours, and a great option if you're traveling with family.
One tip: this is completely doable self-guided, no need to book an organized tour. Tour buses start rolling in around 9:30, with the odd one arriving as early as 9:00. Going in early at around 8:00 gave us a real opportunity to enjoy the place in quiet. However most of the individual attractions only open between 9:30 and 10:00. There's a real window early on to explore the grounds on your own before the crowds show up — plan your arrival with that in mind.
A genuinely fun stop and well worth the trip out of the city.
