Great travel agent ensures a smooth trip

点评：I recently spent 15 wonderful days (Aug. 7–22, 2026) in Iran (Tehran and Isfahan). This was technically wartime, although low-intensity. The truth is that this is something you would never guess if you didn’t know it – life in Iran is more or less normal – but it does change some things for travelers.
I usually organise my trips myself, without using the services of a travel agent. However, in Iran at this time, this is not possible. New regulations stipulate that you need to apply for a visa via a registered Iranian travel agent. The same is true of hotel reservations. Also, due to the sanctions, it is difficult – if not impossible – to make reservations for domestic flights, bus tickets, etc. online.
I chose Aram Saheb Fosul as my travel agent. The main reason was that I liked her approach, as shown in a video she posted on FB. The fact that she resides in Isfahan, a city I was visiting for the first time, was also a plus.
In retrospect, I feel I was very lucky to have made this choice.
I am afraid I was far from the best possible customer: I arranged the trip at the last minute (I just contacted her a week before my departure), and on top of that, I was so busy that I would sometimes take up to a day to reply to her queries regarding my choices for flights, hotels, etc.
On top of that, my trip happened to coincide with religious holidays in Iran, as a result of which hotels in Isfahan were much busier than they would normally be in mid-August. This, of course, meant much more – and, I can assume, much more frustrating – work on her part, as she had to call hotels repeatedly to get availability and pricing information. Then, when she called them again to make the reservation, she would be told there was no availability, or that the price had changed, etc.
In spite of all this, she solved all the problems in a wonderful way. As a good travel agent should do (my past experience shows that they don’t always do it), she did all the hard work in order to make my trip as pleasant and smooth as possible.
She arranged my bus trips from Tehran to Isfahan and back. When I boarded the buses, I saw that she had reserved the most convenient seat for me.
For me, a very important part of this trip was to better understand the situation in Iran, the way Iranians think, etc. For this, you need to have long conversations with locals. I had the opportunity to discuss things with Aram over lunch, and it helped me get a glimpse into the way her generation thinks.
I suspect that everyone who visits this wonderful country wants to do it again, and I am in no way an exception. If and when I get to travel to Iran again, I will certainly try to work with Aram again on the details of my trip.
