Fantastic temple tour - completely changed our understanding of the Meenakshi Temple

点评：We had a wonderful experience visiting the beautiful Meenakshi temple! (We visited by day - not at night). Our guide was very warm, intelligent and super informed, not just about the temple but about its many meanings, histories and. Ll cultural/ social/ religious underpinnings. Not only did he guide us through the spaces and take care of all tickets and queues, he helped us understand how the temple served the community and how it functioned in different times. He also patiently explained the symbolism of the murals and sculptures, which helped us really understand what we were looking at. This is a very difficult to achieve with people like ourselves who have limited understanding of Indian religions, but his explanations were exceptional!
After spending a few hours with him, we also learnt so much about the city, it’s people, it’s resources and social structure and how it relates to the state and even the nation - so much so, that we really feel like we now know Madurai much more deeply than we would have expected.
It was an outstanding tour and fabulous value. Thank you!
