点评:This is a listing for the large chalk rock formations off the western tip of the Isle of Wight, who take their name from a former limestone stack that had a hole in its top that has long since collapsed into the sea. What remains is still impressive and still worth seeing, so why the poor reviews? Oh, that will be for the car parking charges, the queues for the chairlift and fun fair, the perceived expensive boat trips and the on-site café then, as there are no alternative Trip Advisor listing for these to allow people to vent their spleen. So the geographical feature gets penalised.
Well guess what, The Needles is a major attraction at the farthest western point of the island and where large amounts of tourists are attracted, there are always operators prepared to exploit them and take their money.
A) Car parking. Yes, only having one option of paying £7 for all day is exploitation and there is no way of defending that. There is a discount if you are NT members
B) Long queues for the chairlift. Answer = get here early. We arrived by 11.00AM in July (to be fair just before the school holidays started) and walked straight onto the chairlift to go down and it was the same to go back up 2 hours later.
C) Expensive boat trips. I thought £10 per adult was quite reasonable for a 20-minute+ boat trip with commentary. That’s almost the price of a pint of Peroni in a London pub nowadays, and it was a lot more enjoyable than drinking one of those. £20.00 for the rib will depend on whether you have been on one before, we have so didn’t think it was worth the money to do it again.
D) The on-site café. Cannot comment on this as we didn’t bother with the facilities here as it is a mere 12-minute drive to Yarmouth, with its reasonable car parking charges and more importantly very good available pubs, restaurants and cafes.
