Lovely Historical Site with Beautiful Gardens
Carisbrooke Castle的点评
点评：I visited this lovely English Heritage site with my Mum and my 6-year-old daughter on Saturday 2nd August, which was the final day of our holiday to the Isle of Wight.
My mother and I have been to Carisbrooke many times over the years, but this was my daughter’s first visit and she, like us, very much enjoyed exploring the site and getting to see one of the donkeys in the wheel house. We also walked the ramparts, which offers lovely views over the surrounding countryside.
As we visited during the school holidays there were activities to take part in, namely the Taskmaster games. We had played at a number of other sites that week and enjoyed doing them at Carisbrooke too.
Like most castle sites, there are bits that are accessible and bits that are not. Wear good footwear if you intend to go up and walk the ramparts, but if you can’t do the climbing, you can still enjoy the gardens, which are on level ground.
Don’t forget to read all about the history of the castle, or get an audio tour. It is a very interesting site and well worth a visit.
There is a café and toilets at the site and the whole castle can be covered in a couple of hours.
It is cheaper to pre-purchase tickets in advance via the English Heritage website, but you can pay on the day -check online for prices. If you’re planning on also visiting other EH sites on the Isle, get membership as then you’ll get free entry and free parking in the carpark.
