点评:The Kasbah (fortress) seems to be the main tourist attraction in El Kef, but there’s not much to see. Unfortunately, like many historical sites we’ve visited in Tunisia, there are no signs or explanations about the site’s history or significance.
A few things to note from our experience:
People in El Kef are generally kind and curious, but English is rarely spoken—mostly Arabic and some French. Tourism seems uncommon here, and as Asian travellers, we received a lot of attention, including frequent catcalling. Children (and occasionally adults) often approached us asking for money. At the kasbah, a group of kids even threw a small stone at us before asking for dinars, which was quite uncomfortable. This didn’t happen in Tunis, but in El Kef it was a daily( even hourly) occurrence.
We only came to El Kef as a stopover after visiting Dougga, but in hindsight it wasn’t really necessary. Accommodation is limited and quite expensive for the quality you get. There’s a small local handcraft market near the kasbah, but overall, not much to explore.
The entrance to kasbah is free.
