点评:A must see place to visit is Odawara Castle. This is the closest large castle to Tokyo, and typical of those in the Sengoku period. The visit could be a day trip by train from Tokyo, or a stop on the way to Hakone. The castle and the park are designated as a National Historic site. The main attraction is the castle keep, a 5-story structure with an observation deck at the top offering fantastic views of the valley, mountains and the Sagami Bay. Inside the castle each floor is dedicated to the history of the castle and many artifacts are on display. There is also a brief movie on the history of the castle that gives you some insight as to the history and reconstruction. A QR code can make your cellphone into a personal guide. There is a samurai museum with many models of armor are on display and you can even rent the combat armor or kimonos. There is also a Ninja museum where the youngsters can learn about these stealthy soldiers as well as participate in some of the activities. On the grounds there is an ancient shrine and a tea house. A visitor information center and a culture museum are nearby. If you are lucky, one of the many festivals will be in progress in the main plaza. My advice is to go early before the crowds, and allow at least 4 hours to cover the basics. The castle can be reached by a 15 minute walk from the train station and there are many shops and food places along the way. You will not be disappointed.
