点评：Exploring the North Theatre in Jerash was an incredible experience. While not as large as the South Theatre near the Oval Plaza, it has its own charm and significance. The acoustics here are remarkable — even from the back rows, you can imagine how sound would have carried perfectly during performances, allowing every spectator to hear music, speeches, or theatrical acts clearly.
One of the highlights is the beautifully restored mosaic floor, which adds color and artistry to the ancient stone structure. Walking across it, you can almost picture the theatre in full swing, filled with Roman citizens enjoying a show. The tiered seating is well preserved, giving a real sense of the theatre’s scale and the intimacy it offered compared to the larger venues.
Visiting in late August, we appreciated the relative quiet, which allowed us to explore at our own pace and take in the intricate details without feeling rushed. From the North Theatre, you also get lovely views of the surrounding ruins and streets of Jerash, helping you understand how integrated the theatre was in the daily life of the city.
Tip: wear comfortable shoes and bring water — while smaller than other sites, there’s still a bit of walking and very little shade. The North Theatre is a must-see for anyone wanting to experience the cultural heart of ancient Jerash, offering both history and impressive Roman engineering in one captivating spot.
