点评:The driver was punctual, arriving ten minutes early for our 8:00 AM hotel pickup and efficiently dropping us off near the bay. We were led onto a regional boat holding about 50 to 60 passengers by 8:20 AM, but the long wait on board was by far the most frustrating part of the morning due to the muggy, oppressive heat. Sitting docked without a breeze made the humidity stifling. To add to the frustration, staff even asked me to move away from my family to accommodate other passengers, which I refused. After waiting on the boat for a full hour, we finally pulled away—only to turn right back around to the dock to pick up even more people, dragging out an already disorganized start.
Throughout the tour, communication left much to be desired for international travelers. The guidance in English continued to be extremely brief compared to the detailed instructions provided in Portuguese, and what little information was shared in English was often difficult to understand. Also, while the tour description states that water is provided, it is unbottled tap water—if you want bottled water, you have to pay extra for it, even at lunch.
Once we officially got underway, the experience improved. The boat navigated away from the city in about 25 minutes, and the fresh river breeze was a much-needed relief that instantly cooled us down. About 30 to 35 minutes after departure, we reached the "Meeting of Waters" (Encontro das Águas), staying for just five minutes to take pictures from the boat. Rather than continuing down the Amazon River, the boat turned back toward the Rio Negro and headed to Nossa Pescaria - El Shadai. We spent 30 to 40 minutes there, where passengers were given the option to pay extra for a pirarucu feeding activity.
Around 10:35 AM, we departed to visit an indigenous community. Watching their cultural show, dancing, and musical performance was fun and enjoyable, even if it felt somewhat commercialized. They had a small shopping area set up where you could support the locals by buying crafts; we picked up a mug and a keychain.
We arrived at the restaurant for lunch around 12:05 PM. The buffet lunch was good with plenty of options, though all drinks—including bottled water—cost extra. Around 12:45 PM, we were given 40 to 45 minutes to explore the jungle walkway behind the restaurant. This roughly half-mile wooden plank trail runs over the muddy Amazon water into the forest. While it was a neat experience, the walkway severely lacks basic safety standards: it is extremely narrow, wobbly, and broken in multiple places. If you trip or lose your balance, you could easily fall straight into the muddy water below. There was another small souvenir area on the way out where we bought a few more items.
We reboarded the boat around 1:30 PM to start heading toward the pink dolphin spot. The journey brought another safety concern: partway through the ride, water began coming into the lower cabin, triggering a siren. Staff had to deploy a bilge pump to clear the water and then shuffled seating to fix the balance—literally just moving only my family to the other side and swapping them with another couple. It wasn't clear how swapping just four people was supposed to solve a structural water-logging issue, but we complied without arguing to keep things moving.
The pink dolphin experience itself was a highlight. While I opted out of getting in the water for personal reasons, I took plenty of great photos, and the people who went in seemed to thoroughly enjoy interacting with them. It was extremely hot outside, so we grabbed some refreshing fresh coconut water and beer to beat the heat. We wrapped up at the dolphin site around 3:00 PM before starting the journey back.
The boat ride back to the dock took about 10 to 15 minutes, but the end of the day turned into a terrible situation due to a complete lack of coordination. The agency never contacted us beforehand about the return transport. After waiting 5 minutes, a representative from a different agency pointed us toward a driver. I asked the driver directly if he worked for our agency, and he lied and said yes. When we arrived back at our hotel around 3:40 PM, he demanded money—at first I thought it was a tip, but he then demanded more and threatened us. To avoid an argument and ensure my family's safety, I paid him.
Please communicate clearly with your tourists beforehand, especially when there is a language barrier, as this severe lack of protocol put us in danger. I reported the incident to the agency afterward, and while it was nice of them to offer to reimburse the money I had to pay that driver (which I refused, as it doesn't undo the experience), strict driver identification protocols must be put in place immediately.
