点评:The Auckland Project is the initiative of one very rich man, Jonathan Ruffer, to transform a very run down town. It's a range of different attractions through and around the town. The Project's own strapline (A Slightly Bonkers Day Out) is highly misleading. For one thing, you need a lot more than one day! We visited on two successive days and still saw less than half of what's on offer. So, DON'T buy the 'bishop's key' all-in ticket unless you know you have plenty of time to get round everything, as it's not necessarily the bargain it seems. The individual attractions, such as the Bishop's Palace and the Spanish Gallery, may seem very expensive, but there's an awful lot to see. The Bishop's Palace tells its story in a very clever and theatrical way, with cleverly designed room settings and use of technology--we loved it. The gardens are still in development, but already stunning, and you don't need a ticket to enjoy the impressive Walled Garden. We also recommend the Pizza truck in the Palace courtyard. We came back the next day to see the Spanish Gallery, which has an amazing, almost overwhelming collection of works, again presented with great theatricality and engrossing information. Allow a minimum of two hours. We never made it to either the Faith Museum or the Miners' art gallery. But we do strongly recommend the Tapas Bar next to the Spanish Gallery--superb food and generous portions.
