点评:In my recent trip to Japan, we went to a fair number of seafood markets. We went to Nishiki, Kuromon, Hakodate Morning Market, and of course Tsukiji, as well this Pier Bandai. And surprisingly, we had the best time at the Pier Bandai. And that wasn't because Pier Bandai had the freshest, cheapest, the widest variety of seafood. I mean, it's really great, but there's a reason why YouTube isn't filled with a thousand influencer videos of Pier Bandai. It's a pretty decent local fish and produce market, and the good experience I had has more to do with the general quality of seafood and produce available in Japan than any other factor.
And that means that there's something with the other markets that drag them down. Tsukiji is very touristy and expensive. At Nishiki and Kuromon, it's too crowded. Hakodate is... well, very far and since cruise ships dock there now, if you go on one of those days, it has the worst of Tsukiji and Nishiki/Kuroman.
So while I wouldn't go out of my way to visit the Minato Marche Pier Bandai, but if you're in Niigata, it's a must visit. And I think same goes for most local seafood/produce markets on the coast.
