点评：This reserve protects a remnant of the ancient Gondwana rainforests that once covered the Blackall Range, and walking the 1.7 km circuit genuinely feels like stepping into another world — cooler, darker, alive with birdsong (listen for the whipbird's crack). The land was gifted to the public in 1941 by three sisters in memory of their mother, Mary Cairncross, and entry is still just a gold coin donation.
Practical tips from my visit: the walking track opens at 7 am, before the discovery centre — arriving early means you may have the forest almost to yourself. Head to the Glass House Mountains lookout first — the volcanic peaks are at their sharpest in the crisp morning light. The circuit should take you anywhere from 45-60 minutes at an easy pace, and the terrain is relatively flat. Wildlife (pademelons especially) is common but never guaranteed — I didn't see any on this visit and the walk was still worth every minute. Combine it with the Maleny hinterland circuit for a perfect day trip from the coast.
