Snow Lake & Hispar La trek—an experience through another world.

点评：I trekked to K2 Base Camp in 2018, and this year, in August 2025, I finally completed the Snow Lake & Hispar La trek—an experience that truly feels like walking through another world.
Snow Lake itself is surreal huge white basin that looks endless from every direction. The trek across the glacier is demanding, but the silence and scale of the place make every step worth it. Hispar Pass, onthe other hand, is where the real challenge comes—long days, deep snow in places, and the thin air can make the ascent slow. The descent towards Hispar Glacier is equally technical, but the views are unmatched.
A few tips from my experience:
Start very early on the day you cross Hispar La—the snow gets softer as the sun rises.
Make sure your boots are fully broken in; blisters on glacier days can be miserable.
Keep your gear dry at all costs—glacier weather can change suddenly.
A pair of light crampons or microspikes is extremely helpful on icy sections.
Hydrate more than you think—you lose a lot of moisture at altitude even when it’s cold.
I went again with Vertical Explorers (VE), whose team I’ve trekked with before. They’ve been operating in these regions for over 20years, and having a strong local crew on Snow Lake and Hispar La really makes a difference. Great logistics, solid safety practices, and honestly the best value for money compared to other operators. Their guides and porters handled everything smoothly, especially on the pass day.
If you’re considering Snow Lake–Hispar La, go prepared, go with a good team, and you’ll have one of the most memorable adventures of your life.
